While I am a big fan of digital publications, most people still love the look, the feel and the pleasure you get from holding a physical book. While digitally, you can offer more for less, the reverse is true of printing. Economically, you need to print enough books to lower the 'per unit' cost while being acutely aware that any future editions will be hampered by any 'unsold inventory'. The more you print, the lower your cost. The more you print, the more you must sell.

I formed Amazonas Gem Publications because I did not want to fall into the 'book publishing' trap. Many authors have lost control of their own intellectual property and since the Handbook of Gemmology represents many hours of work, I did not want to fall into the same trap. I simply do not want to have a publisher tell me when I can produce the 6th edition.

To this end, financing new editions, especially printed versions, becomes challenging. This is why I am revisiting the business model Tino and I employed when we published the first edition. Sponsorship should have its rewards; it should not simply be money given without some form of economic benefit. I believe our original sponsorship offer was unique because it matched dollar for dollar, the investment with digital copies. These copies were either sold to recoup the cost of the sponsorship or given to special clients who made special purchases.

For the 5th edition printed three-volume set, I am offering the following rewards for your $ 3,000 USD sponsorship:

1. Five printed copies of the three-volume 5th edition including shipping (Value: $ 1,245 USD)
2. Twenty digital downloads of the three-volume 5th edition (Value: $ 1,199 USD)
3. Two Half Page interactive advertisements in Gemmology Today (Value $ 615 USD)

All corporate sponsors will be included on our 'Corporate Sponsorship' page on this website.
